rayvone-deactivated20200430 asked: Do you think that Marvel would be willing to to sell 'sexy variant covers' featuring male superheroes? I mean a few artists that ALREADY work for marvel said they'd be down for it so you wont have to look far, and I know id buy them in a heartbeat!!
There is very little that Marvel won’t sell if we’re convinced that there’s an audience for them.
In this case, though, I’m not genuinely convinced that there is, apart from the rhetoric of people who don’t like some of our covers featuring women.
So basically Tom Brevoort thinks women are lying when they say they like sexy things?
We’re Marvel! We’ll sell you literally anything! We don’t give a shit about standards or the culture we create if you’re willing to shell out the money! Oh, wait, except for that. We won’t sell you that because there’s no way anyone could possibly want to see an eroticized male body! It’s only natural that people want to continually see all of our female characters ass-up or splayed leg, half naked or wearing a costume so ridiculously thin/tiny that it couldn’t possibly protect them while they’re out superheroing. What, do you think these female superheroes are actually here to kick ass and save the world? Think again, you uppity bitches! We’ll sell you anything, including the idea that woman are only as good as their secondary sex characteristics! Don’t ask us to stop because money. It’s not our fault the market we created exists! We’d be idiots not to exploit it! Oh wait, whats that? You want male characters to be given the same treatment? Don’t be silly, no one wants to see that! It’s not like female fan-produced erotic art has become its own cottage industry or anything! Trust me, this is purely about money and not at all about misogyny.
